Self-assembled colloidal crystals from Zr[O.sub.2] nanoparticles
Article Abstract:
A synthesis of ordered three-dimensional (3-D) assemblies of nanocrystalline zirconia from aqueous suspensions of Zr[O.sub.2] nanoparticles without the need for hydrocarbon surfactants or solvents to control colloidal crystal growth is described. The colloidal crystals were exceptionally robust and were sintered at high temperatures (300-500 degree Celsius) for further stability and were found to become progressively more amorphous above 350 degree Celsius.

Statistical study of clathrate-hydrate nucleation in a water/hydrochlorofluorocarbon system: search for the nature of the "memory effect"
Article Abstract:
The statistical nature of clathrate-hydrate nucleation is experimentally studied in a quiescent hydrochlorofluorocarbon-in-water system in which a hydrate was once formed and then dissociated. It helps to investigate how hydrate nucleation in the system depends on its thermal history, through which the preceding hydrate dissociation was carried out, and hereby better characterize the nature of the 'memory effect' for hydrate formation.

Neutron diffraction study of structure I and structure II trimethylene oxide clathrate deuterate
Article Abstract:
Trimethylene oxide (TMO) forms structure I or structure II hydrates depending on stoichiometry and affords the opportunity to compare and contrast the temperature dependence of the crystal structure parameters for the two major hydrate structure types occluding a common guest module. Changes with respect to temperature were observed in structure I and not in structure II.
